Club racing is conducted almost every Sunday throughout the year and on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. No formal racing is organised on Saturdays, however we do have a few Open Events throughout the year.
Racing is organised into seven separate handicap series:
- Icicle
- Spring
- Early Summer
- Late Summer
- Autumn
- Frostbite
- Wednesday Evenings
Detailed dates and formats of each series are outlined below.
Each series, excepting the Icicle, Spring and Frostbite series will be separated by a “Trophy Day” which will comprise of an AM and PM Pursuit Races to be arranged and organised by the Race Officer. RYA Portsmouth Yardstick will be used to calculate results and start times.
Dinghy Club Racers are reminded that Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club is a multifaceted club with members who, in addition to Dinghy Racing, are involved in a variety of recreational water sports including, Windsurfing, Canoeing, Paddle Boarding, plus a wide range of training courses for Juniors and Adults. In addition the club also has a healthy calendar of Open Meetings and other events. Please ensure that, even in the red heat of competition, other members and water users are always treated politely and courteously.
YDSC supports the RYA Sail Clean Strategy for all racing.

Icicle Series (Sundays)
Sun 4th Jan 26 to Sun 22 Feb 26 (16 races, 8 to count or 50% of races sailed). All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will normally consist of :
- 11.30am Mass start handicapped race on a windward/leeward course race if conditions permit
- Back to Back- Mass start handicap race, around suitable buoys
Spring Series (Sundays)
Sun 1 Mar 26 – Sun 29 March 26 (20 races, any 7 races from am or pm to count or 33% of races sailed). All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will normally consist of:
- Morning – 2 races back to back each with separate starts:
- 11.00 AM Morning Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 11.05 AM Morning Series – Around the buoys
- Afternoon – 2 races back to back each with separate starts, not before 1.30pm
- 1.30 PM Afternoon Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 1.35 PM Afternoon Series – Around the buoys
Easter Trophy Day
Sun 5 Apr 26. One day Pursuit competition comprising of two pursuit races, one in the morning, one after lunch, both to count.
Short Race Format Day
Sun 12 Apr 26. Specific details to be advised closer to the time.
Wednesday Evening Series
Wed 8 Apr 26 – Wed 26 Aug 26 (21 races – 10 to count or 50% of races sailed)
- One handicapped race around suitable buoys or windward leeward starting at 7.30pm, except first (8 Apr – 7.00pm), second (15 Apr – 7.15pm) and last (26 Aug – 7.00pm). One fleet.
Early Summer Series (Sundays)
Sun 19 Apr 26 – Sun 14 Jun 26 (36 races, any 12 races from am or pm to count, or 33% of races sailed). All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will normally consist of:
- Morning – 2 races back to back each with separate starts:
- 11.00 AM Morning Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 11.05 AM Morning Series – Around the buoys
- Afternoon – 2 races back to back each with separate starts, not before 1.30pm
- 1.30 PM Afternoon Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 1.35 PM Afternoon Series – Around the buoys
Early Summer Trophy Day – The Graham Cooke Memorial Pursuit Race
Sun 21 Jun 26. One day Pursuit competition comprising of two pursuit races, one in the morning, one after lunch, both to count.
Late Summer Series (Sundays)
Sun 28 Jun 26 – Sun 16 Aug 26 (32 races, any 11 from am or pm to count or 33% or races sailed). All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will normally consist of:
- Morning – 2 races back to back each with separate starts:
- 11.00 AM Morning Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 11.05 AM Morning Series – Around the buoys
- Afternoon – 2 races back to back each with separate starts, not before 1.30pm
- 1.30 PM Afternoon Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 1.35 PM Afternoon Series – Around the buoys
Late Summer Trophy Day
Sun 23 Aug 26. One day Pursuit competition comprising of two pursuit races, one in the morning, one after lunch, both to count.
Autumn Series (Sundays)
Sun 31 Aug 26 – Sun 18 Oct 26. All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will be a series of alternative format races specific details which will be advised closer to the time.
Autumn Trophy Day
Sun 25 Oct 26. One day Pursuit competition comprising of two pursuit races, one in the morning, one after lunch, both to count.
Frostbite Series (Sundays)
Sun 1 Nov 26 – Sun 13 Dec 26 (14 races, 7 to count or 50% of races sailed). All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will normally consist of:
- 11.30am Mass start handicapped race on a windward/leeward course race if conditions permit
- 1.30pm Mass start handicap race, around suitable buoys.
Brass Monkey Saturday 27 Dec 26
Recreational Watersports during racing – When club racing or open meetings are taking place then recreational watersports can usually still continue throughout the day. Any exceptions will be advertised in the Club Calendar.
