Club racing is conducted almost every Sunday throughout the year and on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. No formal racing is organised on Saturdays.
Racing is organised into seven separate handicap series
- Icicle
- Spring
- Early Summer
- Late Summer
- Autumn
- Frostbite Series
- Wednesday Evenings
Detailed formats of each series are outlined below.
Each series will be separated by a “Trophy Day” which will comprise of an AM and PM Pursuit Races to be arranged and organised by the Race Officer. RYA Portsmouth Yardstick will be used to calculate results and start times.
Dinghy Club Racers are reminded that Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club is a multifaceted club with members who, in addition to Dinghy Racing, are involved in a variety of recreational water sports including, Windsurfing, Canoeing, Paddle Boarding, plus a wide range of training courses for Juniors and Adults. In addition the club also has a healthy calendar of Open Meetings and other events. Please ensure that, even in the red heat of competition, other members and water users are always treated politely and courteously.

The Club Racing Series for 2023 are:
Icicle Series (Sundays)
Sun 8 Jan 23 to Sun 26 Feb 23 (16 races, 8 to count or 50% of races sailed)
All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will normally consist of :-
- 11.30am Mass start handicapped race on a windward/leeward course race if conditions permit
- 1.30pm Mass start handicap race, around suitable buoys.
Spring Series (Sundays) (20 races, any 7 races from am or pm to count or 33% of races sailed)
Sun 5 Mar 23 – Sun 2 Apr 23
- Morning Races – All starts and courses at sole discretion of the Race Officer but will normally consist of :-
- 11.00 AM Morning Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 11.05 AM Morning Series – Around the buoys
- Afternoon Races – start, not before 1.30pm
- 1.30 PM Afternoon Series – Windward/Leeward Start
- 1.35 PM Afternoon Series – Around the buoys
Easter Pursuit Races / Spring Trophy Day
Sun 9 Apr 23
- One day Pursuit competition comprising of two pursuit races, one in the morning, one after lunch, both to count.
Wednesday Evening Series
Wed 12 Apr 23 – Wed 30 Aug 23 (21 races – 10 to count or 50% of races sailed)
- One handicapped race around suitable buoys or windward leeward starting at 7.30pm, except first (12 Apr) and last (30 Aug) which start at 7.00pm. One fleet.
Early Summer Series (Sundays) (40 races, any 13 races from am or pm to count, or 33% of races sailed)

Brass Monkey 27 Dec 23
Recreational Watersports during racing – When club racing or open meetings are taking place then recreational watersports can usually still continue throughout the day. The few exceptions will be advertised in the Club Calendar.
