Annual Refresher Training
The club run safetyboat duty refresher training at the start of each season (and later in the season too) for club members who already have Powerboat Level 2. These are free of charge to members but must be booked in advance.
Safetyboat Duty Refresher Training – Easter Bank Holiday Monday 6th April 2026 and Bank Holiday Monday 4th May 2026

RYA Powerboat Courses
YDSC currently offers two powerboat courses which lead to RYA qualifications. These courses are only open to club members. If you are not a currently a club member you can join the club for a minimum period of 3 months in order to access the course- you can do this when booking. There is a fee for these courses. Full club members (minimum duration 1 year) can get a 60% discount on the course fee in return for carrying out safetyboat duties.
RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course
This 16 hour (2 day) course combines Level 1 and 2 together. It is course to learn how handle a powerboat safely. No previous experience is required. Minimum age 12 years. The cost of this course is £225 non-members plus an interim club membership for 3 months at £45. For full time club members taking on safetyboat duties the cost with the 60% discount will be £90. RYA Safetyboat Course
This 16 hour (2 day) course is only open to those who already hold a Powerboat Level 2 certificate. It is about learning how to assist other craft on the water – sailing boats, windsurfers, canoes etc. The syllabus covers things such as how to right a capsized boat, how to tow, how to help someone stuck on a lee shore. Ideal for those undertaking club safetyboat duties. The cost of this course is £149. Full members of YDSC can apply to for a 50% discount code.
