YDSC now uses a separate system for membership management called membermojo. Current members can login to check and update their membership details.
Joining
Joining YDSC is easy and straightforward. There is no Joining Fee and you can join immediately as an interim member for 3 months or apply for full membership via the Membership Menu.
Interim Membership
Interim membership is intended for those who want to try the club for a short period or be members for a short time in order to do a course. As an interim member you can:
- Use the club when it is open.
- Take part in club activities.
- Hire club equipment once you have been assessed as competent / briefed.
- Store your craft at the club if you include that in your membership.
Interim membership lasts 3 months, cannot be renewed within a year and is paid for online on application. You can join as an adult, a family or a junior/student. As an interim member you cannot vote at the AGM, invite guests or apply for club keys. If you apply to rejoin as interim within a year of a previous membership then unless you convert your application will be revoked and you will be refunded the fee less a £10 admin charge.
Full Membership
Full membership is on an ongoing annual basis and all full membership donations (as we are a Registered Charity) are set up as payments by quarterly direct debit. You need to set up a direct debit online before a full membership application is approved. Membership categories are made up of 6 main types, each of which can be customised with craft storage options:
- ADULT includes one person to Sail / Windsurf / Wing / SUP / Canoe.
- FAMILY includes up to two adult parents/guardians and their children under 18, or in full time education.
- DUAL CLUB allows fully paid up members of another RYA Affiliated Club to try YDSC for up to a year. Proof of current membership and duties is required. It can cover up to a family membership with no duties and is available once for 12 months only. Thereafter a full membership category will apply. It is not intended for previous YDSC members.
- JUNIOR represents those under 18. Berths for Junior craft are free.
- STUDENT represents those over 18 but in full-time education. Berths for Student craft are free.
- SOCIAL MEMBER represents one person who wishes to support the Club and who can become a full member upon payment of the appropriate balance. (Shore based only.)
Direct Debit payments are taken on or around 15 Mar, 15 Jun, 15 Sep and 15 Dec for the following quarter. There is no charge for the period from when you joined to the next payment date.
Full members can cancel their membership at any time using the form on the Membership Menu. You can also rejoin at any time, but if it is within 9 months you may be required to pay the subs for the period between leaving and joining. The subscription is an annual fee paid quarterly.
If you require help or more information, please contact our membership secretary:
Gift Aid – As a Registered Charity we can claim Gift Aid on membership donations, so if you are a UK taxpayer please complete the Gift Aid declaration part of the application form. If you are a higher rate tax payer you can reclaim the additional tax over the basic rate paid, via your tax return. Please inform us if you are no longer a tax payer.
Duties – Club members are expected to help with the running of the club by doing at least two ‘duties’ per year. These mostly involve providing safetyboat cover or supporting racing. All adults (except Dual Club and Social Members if they choose not to) are expected to undertake duties and active Junior and Student members are encouraged to. Junior family members who are old enough are also encouraged to help a member of their family or another appropriate adult to do a duty as well. Without this help from members, the club could not operate and we thank all members for their continued support.
Insurance – All craft kept or used at YDSC (including, but not limited to, dinghies, windsurfers, wing boards, kayaks, canoes, SUPs) must be covered by third party insurance of at least £3,000,000.
Storage – Members can add storage to their membership using the form on the Membership Menu, either as berths in the dinghy park or storage on the grass bank.
To avoid cluttering of the dinghy park, a Boat Storage fee of £180 per annum per boat will be temporarily levied on lapsed members who do not remove their boat(s) from the compound. Current members who have not been active for a considerable length of time may be requested to remove their craft when space for new members is required. If the boat does not look as though it is sailable it may also be moved. For questions about storage you can contact our boat park manager Neil via
