Canoe/SUP

As the home of Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club, Grimwith Reservoir is well known as a wonderful venue for sailing and windsurfing, but it is also well suited to other watersports such as kayaking, canoeing and stand up paddle boarding. Membership is open to those who want to pursue these activities, and the benefits include:

  • Access to the largest inland body of water in Yorkshire with wonderful views of the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
  • No joining fee – just a quarterly membership subscription.
  • Superb, modern clubhouse and excellent changing facilities with newly refurbished showers.
  • Award winning café.
  • Ample parking adjacent to the water.
  • Access seven days a week for “buddy sailing”.
  • Safety boat cover provided at weekends and Wednesdays (in the summer) ready to help if needed.
  • Outside storage space for equipment.
  • Excellent facility for maintaining fitness and improving mental well being.
  • Ideal for developing sea kayaking skills before the big voyage!

To join or to ask further questions please contact our membership secretary at . Non-members can also use the water subject to the day usage conditions.

All craft kept or used at YDSC (including, but not limited to, dinghies, windsurfers, kayaks, canoes, SUPs) must be covered by third party insurance of at least £3,000,000. You can only launch or come ashore in front of the club grounds. The high elevation of Grimwith Reservoir can make it very exposed to strong winds and conditions may not always be suitable for inexperienced beginners.

Unfortunately other watersports including kite surfing, wild swimming and diving are currently not permitted.
