Description
YDSC is a RYA Recognised Training Centre and each year we run RYA Young Sailors Holiday Courses, which are three day courses run in the school summer holidays for children aged 10-15.
These are for beginners or improvers and are a great way for those who have been attending the club Saturday morning sessions to fast track their sailing and really get going. Participants can work towards RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1,2,3 or 4 depending on their experience. Sessions will run 10am – 4pm each day.
There will be two courses this year on Tuesday 29th July – Thursday 31st July 2025 and Tuesday 26th – Thursday 28th August 2025. These are both during weeks when the club is open and providing safety cover each day. In the event of a cancellation your course fee will be refunded.
Bookings close 7 days in advance.
Event FAQs
If you need to cancel please let us know by email at . It will help if you quote your order number in the confirmatory email. The refund policy is set out in the Booking Terms. Please do let us know as early as possible as it helps with instructor allocation and if the event is fully booked then someone else could take your place.
As well as swimwear and a towel you will need to bring your own footwear (wetsuit boots or trainers), a waterproof top and gloves. The club can provide you with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet.
In a dinghy it is easy to get hit on the head by the boom (the metal bar at the bottom on the sail) when learning to sail so a helmet is a good idea. All children under the age of 16 MUST wear a helmet on beginner training (Stages 1, 2 & 3 or Levels 1 & 2). Once attending club youth improver sessions it is at the discretion of parents, but all participants must always follow the advice of the instructors/ coaches leading the session.
Adult beginners are advised to wear a helmet, especially in windy conditions and when first learning in a single hander.
For windsurfing, all children under the age of 16 MUST wear a helmet.
