Sailing Courses

RYA Level 1 Start Sailing

This is a 16 hour (2 day) introductory course for those with no previous sailing experience. Open to adults and teenagers. It will generally be taught in large dinghies with 3 participants and an instructor onboard. It is recommended that this is followed up with a Level 2 course.

RYA Level 2 Basic Skills

This 16 hour (2 day) course follows on course from Level 1. By the end of Level 2 you will have a basic level of competence and should be able to sail in light winds without an instructor onboard. Open to adults and teenagers. You will sail large crewed dinghies and have an opportunity to sail a single-hander. Once this course is completed you may hire club training boats in suitable weather conditions. It is recommended that you attend club improver sessions to build your confidence and receive continued support.

RYA Level 3 Better Skills

This 16 hour (2 day) course is a very flexible, designed for those wanting to improve their skills and gain confidence. Ideal for those who have had a gap since they did Level 2, have bought their first boat and want some tips, or want to learn some new skills such as how to use a spinnaker or how to race. The syllabus can be adapted to meet the needs of the participants.

RYA Young Sailors Holiday Course

This is a 3 day course run in the school summer holidays for children aged 8-14. Non residential 9.30-4.30 each day. This open to both beginners and improvers. It is ideal for children who have been attending Saturday morning club beginners sessions, as a way of fast tracking their sailing. Stage 1, 2 or 3 RYA Youth Sailing Certificates will be awarded depending on the level of experience of the participant.

RYA Dinghy Instructor Training

This is a 5 day course for people who are already experienced dinghy sailors who wish to learn how to teach sailing and become a qualified RYA Dinghy Instructor. Candidates must pass a Pre- entry Assessment of their personal sailing ability prior to the course and hold a valid First Aid certificate and RYA Powerboat Level 2. For further information contact .

RYA Start Windsurfing Course

The 2 day RYA Start Windsurfing Course is aimed at beginners and successful candidates will learn to handle a board and be able to sail competently in appropriate conditions. Powerboat Courses

RYA Powerboat Level 2

This 16 hour (2 day) course combines Level 1 and 2 together. It is course to learn how handle a powerboat safely. No previous experience is required. Minimum age 12 years.

RYA Safetyboat Course

This 16 hour (2 day) course is only open to those who already hold a Powerboat Level 2 certificate. It is about learning how to assist other craft on the water – sailing boats, windsurfers, canoes etc. The syllabus cover things such as how to right a capsized boat, how to tow, how to help someone stuck on a lee shore. Ideal for those undertaking club safetyboat duties.
