When rigging you should be aware at all times that a gust could pick up your kit and it could hit someone or something and cause injury or damage. This can happen without much warning and it is your responsibility to be safe and protect others.
For those that are unsure, there are some recommended ways of doing this safely illustrated below. As with most things in windsurfing, there are several ways of doing it rather than one right way. We mostly use tyres as weights to stop things blowing away. Please use them, and please put them back on the sleepers afterwards so the grass does not get covered in dead ring marks.
Remember – STAY SAFE | USE THE TYRES | PUT THEM BACK AFTER
Rigging
When rigging, either sit at the windward end with a tyre within reach ready to use, or at the leeward end with a tyre on the sail head.
Securing the rig on its own
It is better to leave the rig attached to the board in general, but if you have to leave the rig unattached then secure it at the windward end with the rig downwind of the tyre. You can put the tyre on the head of the sail into the wind, or put the uphaul through a tyre onto the mast foot into the wind so long as you are sure it won’t come off.
Rig attached to the board
It is best to leave the rig attached to the board with the board turned bottom up and a tyre on it if it is sufficiently windy to need it. The board should be across the wind, bottom up with the wind pushing it down and the rig downwind.
